Speech by Minister of Transport Donald Jamieson at the Citizen of the Year banquet held by the St. John's Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees) in St. John's, Newfoundland. He speaks about such subjects as: the desire for change; protests; the importance of respecting the rule of law; the revolution of rising expectations; the standard of living versus a way of life; the need for a sound economic base and a good standard of living; the risk of focussing too much on whether one industry is better than another; education; the need to avoid tunnel vision; the need to improve the way of life in Newfoundland in order to keep young people in the province; the issue of centralization in Newfoundland; and the need for better communities and cultural development. Charlie Richardson, past president of the Gander Jaycees, thanks Jamieson on behalf of the gathering. Another club official announces the Citizen of the Year for 1968: John Kerr Pratt.
