Sub-sub-series consists of records acquired and accumulated by the Office of the Chief Engineer relating to the Annapolis and Digby Railway, 1889-1892. The construction of this railway, to run between Annapolis and Digby, Nova Scotia, was originally planned by the Western Counties Railway Company. The company failed to complete the line, and with authority from parliament the government assumed responsibility for the construction. (52 Vict., c.8). When the Annapolis and Digby line was completed in July 1891, it provided an unbroken connection by rail between Yarmouth and Halifax, through an arrangement with the Windsor and Annapolis Railway Company. In January 1894, the railway was transferred to the Yarmouth and Annapolis Railway Company (NA, PC 124, 17 January 1894).

The records in this series consist of a small portion of the registered correspondence concerning construction of the line, 1890-1891 (Vol. 724), and a special index of all correspondence addressed to Collingwood Schreiber, Chief Engineer and General Manager of Government Railways; Alexander P. Bradley, Secretary and Chief Clerk of the Department; and L. Caddy (Vol. 742).
