Sub-series consists of project files relating to research undertaken at the Vancouver Laboratory, such as air seasoning of lumber, utilization of sawmill waste and the use of charcoal as a fuel in motor vehicles. The Western Forest Products Laboratory operated under the control of the Canadian Forestry Service and its predecessors prior to its privatization in 1979, along with its eastern counterpart, as Forintek Canada Corporation.

Canada. Forest Products Laboratory (Vancouver, B.C.) : As a result of representations made by the Imperial Munitions Board, which desired more complete and thorough tests of airplane timbers in British Columbia, a branch testing laboratory was established at Vancouver in cooperation with the University of British Columbia (Interior, Annual Report 1919, part III, p. 11; NA, RG 39, vol. 4, file 43746). This laboratory was subsequently known as the Forest Products Research Laboratory, Vancouver and the Vancouver Forest Products Laboratory. The Vancouver laboratory's name was changed on 10 June 1971 to the Western Forest Products Laboratory. It remained under the control of the Canadian Forestry Service until 1979 when it became part of the newly privatized Forintek Canada Corporation. RG39 General Inventory
