Canada. Dept. of Labour. Government Employees' Compensation Branch : By means of An Act to amend the Government Employees Compensation Act, 1947 (15 Geo. VI, c.16, 31 May 1951), responsibility for this Act was passed to the Minister of Labour from the Minister of Transport. The Act provided a mechanism whereby workmen's compensation could be paid to federal government employees and the Department of Labour set up the Government Employees Compensation Branch to administer the legislation. The Government Employees Compensation Branch was a predecessor of the Occupational Safety and Health Branch. Although the first piece of federal government legislation in this area was passed in 1918, the Department of Labour became formally responsible for the Act in 1951. RG27 General Inventory
