Canada. Labour Canada. Office of the Minister : Although the Department of Labour was established in 1900 (pursuant to the Conciliation Act, 63-64 Vict., c.24, 18 July 1900), the office of Minister of Labour was not itself created until 1909 (8-9 Edw. VII, c.22, 19 May 1909). The first holder of that office was William Lyon Mackenzie King who had been Deputy Minister of Labour since the department's inception in 1900. Between 1900 and 1909 the Postmaster General was responsible for the Department of Labour. RG27 General Inventory
