The sub-series consists of numerous manuscripts (mostly undated) and printed Cree translations (in Roman characters, not Cree syllabics) of the Bible made by the Venerable James Hunter and his second wife, Jean Ross Hunter: the Morning and Evening Prayer lections for the 1st and 2nd Sundays in Advent (vol. 2, file 31); two small excerpts from Genesis and Joshua (vol. 2, file 32); substantially complete translations of the major historical books of the Old Testament, 1 Samuel 18:1 to Esther 10:3 (vol. 2, files 33-35); "Oo Meyoo Ahchemowin S. Matthew", printed by the Church Missionary Society, 1853, with manuscript corrections made post-1854 (vol. 2, file 36) and the revised version, "Oo Meyo Achimoowin St. Matthew", printed by the British and Foreign Bible Society, 1877 (vol. 2, file 37); two small excerpts from "Oo Meyo Achimoowin S. Luke", 8 June 1854 (vol. 2, file 38); "Oo Meyo Achimoowin St. John", bound with Mrs. Hunter's 1st Epistle of John, "Nistum Oo Mamowe Mussinahumakawin John", both printed by the British and Foreign Bible Society, 1855 (vol. 2, file 39); the Acts of the Apostles, 20 February - 10 April 1851 (vol. 2, file 41); the Pauline epistles, Hebrews, and 1 and 2 Peter (vol. 2, files 41-43); and [Mrs. Hunter's translations] of the epistles of James, 1 & 2 Peter, 1, 2, and 3 John, and Jude, as well as Revelation (vol. 2, file 44 and vol. 3, file 45).

Location of originals note:

The originals of the printed items in vol. 2, files 37 and 39, were transferred in 1999 to the Rare Book collection of the National Library of Canada.

Replacement photocopies of the printed items transferred in 1999 to the National Library of Canada have been placed in vol. 2, files 37 and 39 for the convenience of researchers. Replacement photocopies have also been made (vol. 2, file 36) of the original "Oo Meyoo Ahchemowin S. Matthew" which is kept in security storage (vol. 6).
