Royal Roads Military College. Office of the Faculty Board : From January 1953 to August 1954, these minutes appear under the titles Instructor Staff Meetings, Meetings of Heads of Departments, Academic Board Meetings, and Staff Meetings. The name Faculty Board appears to have been adopted only in November, 1954; however, committees acting under previously-used names comprised the same members and carried out similar functions. The Faculty Board consisted of the Principal (as Chairman), the Registrar (as Secretary), the Vice-Commandant, the Chief Administrative Officer, the Chief Librarian, and all instructors, both civilian and military, teaching in the academic wing of RRMC, with the exception of the language arts teachers, who were nonetheless invited to attend meetings of the Board. Also invited to attend meetings were the Assistant Librarian, the Assistant Registrar, the Comptroller and Logistics Officer, the Personnel Administration Officer, and the Chaplains. The role of the Faculty Board was to make recommendations to the Faculty Council on academic matters, including cadet grades and the academic eligibility of individual cadets to repeat a year if necessary. The Board also served as a forum for broad-ranging discussions on the academic standards of the College and the College's reputation as an educational institution, as well as on matters affecting the terms and conditions of employment of University Teachers.
