Canada. Canadian Armed Forces. Toronto Militia District : A major reorganization of the Primary Reserve (Militia) took place on 1 September 1970, leaving the reserves organized into five geographic groupings under the command of Mobile Command. These groupings were the Militia Area Atlantic, Militia Area Eastern, Militia Area Central, Militia Area Prairie and Militia Area Pacific, each maintained by a Regular Force Support Staff. The Central Militia Area comprised the geographic area of the province of Ontario, less that of units at Thunder Bay and Kenora, which were under the command of Prairie Militia Area. Under the Central Militia Area there were six districts: Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa, London, Northern Ontario and Windsor. Under Canadian Forces Organization Order 3.102, dated 1 March 1985, the following units were allotted to the Toronto Militia District: Headquarters, Toronto Militia District, The Governor General's Horse Guards and Band, The Ontario Regiment, The Queen's York Rangers, 7th Toronto Regiment, 2nd Field Engineer Regiment, The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada and Band, The Royal Regiment of Canada and Band, The Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, 48th Highlanders of Canada, The Toronto Scottish Regiment, 25 (Toronto) Service Battalion, and 25 (Toronto) Medical Company. The role of the Toronto Militia District was to coordinate activities at the local level for the provision of operationally ready Militia forces to support the Regular Force in time of civil or military need.
