Canada. Canadian Armed Forces. Western Nova Scotia Militia District. Headquarters : A major reorganization of the Primary Reserve (Militia) took place on 1 September 1970, leaving the reserves organized into five geographic groupings under the command of Mobile Command. These groupings were the Militia Area Atlantic, Militia Area Eastern, Militia Area Central, Militia Area Prairie and Militia Area Pacific. On 1 November 1970 Western Nova Scotia District, Cape Breton District, Western New Brunswick District, Eastern New Brunswick District, Prince Edward Island District and Newfoundland District, formed Militia Area Atlantic. The mandate of the Militia District was to coordinate the efforts at the local level for providing operationally ready reserve forces to support the Regular Force. The original order of battle for the Western Nova Scotia Militia District consisted of the West Nova Scotia Militia; 1 Field Regiment; PL Fusiliers; Halifax Militia Service Battalion; Halifax Militia Band; 84 Independent Battery; West Nova Scotia Regiment; and the 1st Battalion, Nova Scotia Highlanders. The Western Nova Scotia Militia District was disbanded on 4 September 1992 and replaced by the Nova Scotia District, which was allocated to Land Force Atlantic Region. General inventory
