Canada. Canadian Armed Forces. Atlantic Militia Area. Headquarters : The Primary Reserve (Militia) was reorganized on 1 September 1970 to comprise five groupings under the command of Mobile Command: Militia Area Atlantic, Militia Area Eastern, Militia Area Central, Militia Area Prairie and Militia Area Pacific, each with a Regular Force Support Staff. The task of Atlantic Militia Area (AMA) is to provide operationally ready Militia forces to support the Regular Force for civil or military requirements. The AMA was comprised of six militia districts: Western Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, Eastern New Brunswick, Western New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland. The AMA Headquarters Militia Staff integrated the Regular Support Staff and had responsibility for policy, administrative, logistical and training support to the Militia District Headquarters and units located in the Atlantic provinces. In April 1992 that consisted of: 6 District Headquarters, 2 Artillery Regiments, 1 Independent Artillery Battery, 2 Armoured Regiments, 8 Infantry Battalions, 2 Field Engineer Squadrons, 5 Service Battalions, 1 Medical Company and 1 Dental Platoon. On 4 September 1992 Atlantic Militia Area was disbanded and Land Force Atlantic Area organized. General inventory
