Series consists of two sub-series: reference material and clippings. Included in the reference material are files which were arranged by Town by subject. Contained in the sub-series are files on animals, fish and birds; art magazines with articles on other artists; texts on Canadian art by Dennis Reid and Barry Lord, critiqued by Town; exhibition catalogues on other artists; and information on art supplies and artists' tools.

The clippings sub-series was created from loose material and contains some early magazine covers; newspaper and magazine reviews of Town's exhibitions (1940's-1980's); some of his book and gallery reviews; general commentaries and statements to the press; information on the general art scene including articles on artist friends and colleagues, art criticism in Canada, cultural institutions, arts funding and creativity; and information on topics of interest to Town including urban renewal, health issues, arts funding, drugs and modern times.
