Townsfolk in the afternoon sun. The White Hart in Bletchingly, Surrey, England. The Clayton Arms in Godstone. A section of Universal Bren Gun Carriers leads men of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry into winter quarters in the little circle of country towns around Godstone in the Surrey North Downs (fictionalized as [Weystone] in the film). The men are billeted in the villagers' homes. Officers of "B" Company [Major R.A. Lindsay, Lieutenant D.H. Rosser and Lieutenant R.P. Clark] move into a 16th century farmhouse. The Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel J.N. Edgar and his Adjutant are billeted in the White Hart. Bren Gun Carrier, Thompson Machine Gun and #36 Grenade training. In the evening the regiment mix with the villagers, help in their homes, play cards, darts in a pub. Regimental Sergeant Major Owen Gardner with a child in his arms [His?] and a company Sergeant Major attempt to solve a crossword puzzle. Following a church parade the PPCLI move out in the spring. The [Loyal Edmonton Regiment] band plays. Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry were in the Godstone area between September 1940 and June 1941. They were part of the 2nd Brigade, 1st Canadian Infantry Division ("The Breadliners").
