Footage of performances of the play "Bopha". ARREST alternates with shots of actual protest activities, interview segments and voice-over commentary by Sidney Poitier. Dramatic segments from the play, performed by the Earth Players, demonstrate the actors: version of life in a police state, including conflict between black citizens and black policemen; within families of black policemen; and within black policemen themselves, whose loyalties are divided. Actual events shown include: the outlawed African National Congress carrying the body of a blck student; black police cadets in training; and archival footage of the 1976 student revolt in Soweto, South Africa.
