Series consists of documentation on Paul Almond's writing of prose, poetry and drama, and includes general material on his work in theatre.
Included is a typescript of an address to the Quebec Motion Picture Pioneers, 1970; typescript and printed copies of editorials, articles and reviews written at Oxford, 1951-1952; typescript of a journal documenting a trip in the United States, 1949; typescript of a libretto, 1953; typescript of Almond's play The Legend of Lionus, 1950, with related correspondence and program, 1950-1951; manuscripts, typescripts and printed copies of poems by Almond, 1945-1967; typescript of Almond's radio adaptation of part of Dante's The Divine Comedy, 1954, with related correspondence, 1954; typescripts of short stories (1950s), with related correspondence (including letters from Marjorie Whitelaw, H. Gordon Green, Janice Tyrwhitt, Robert Weaver), 1953, and a copy of the short story "A Sheaf of Wheat" in print, 1954.
Series also contains correspondence, theatre programs and clippings relating to Paul Almond's productions with the Montreal Repertory Theatre, Trinity Players and Loyola College Dramatic Society, 1942-1954, as well as the constitution, articles of association, programs, correspondence and clippings relating to the Oxford and Cambridge Players, 1951-1952, and clippings and programs relating to the Elizabethan Theatre Company, 1953. Also included is correspondence, publicity material and program relating to Almond's recital tour of the Gaspé, 1954, and miscellaneous material documenting his efforts to find theatrical work in the U.S. and Canada, 1954-1955.
Additional material consists of prose, poems and a radio talk by Paul Almond; a copy of his play in verse, Revelations (for the 2001 One Act Play Festival Almond founded in Malibu); documentation on Almond's Asteroid project; and documentation on his book of published letters, High Hopes: Coming of Age at the Mid-Century (Montréal: ECW Press, 1999). The Asteroid project began as a film script, titled Clarion, which Almond eventually sold as Doomsday Rock to an American film studio but which was never produced. He subsequently adapted the work as a novel, Nemesis One, which was translated by Daniel Poliquin and published as La Vengeance des dieux (Montréal: Art global, about 1999). The files include drafts, correspondence with agents and publishers, contracts, and other material. The High Hopes files include correspondence with publishers, agents, editors and lawyers. Included are letters from Robert Stacey, Bruce Whiteman and Shirley Gibson, as well as Patrick Macnee.
Series also consists of audiovisual material including an interview by Peter Anthony Holder with Almond for the radio program "Holder Overnight," 1999; and a video recording of the television series Michael Coren Live featuring special guest Paul Almond who speaks of the recent publication of High Hopes, 1999.
