The Anglo-American Secretariat was one of a number of such units, officially titled Ländersekretariats (country secretariats), which were established in Moscow following the creation of the Comintern (Communist International) in 1921. These secretariats were manned by nationals from CPs of respective foreign country blocs, and handled matters pertaining to their respective Communist Parties. They served as specialists-advisors, researchers, translators and interpreters to the policy-making bodies atop the Comintern bureaucracy -- (Executive Committee, the Praesidium, the Secretariat, the Organizational Bureau and the Control Commission). The very crucial matter of Comintern control over local (national) parties was effected through the Ländersekretariats.

The CPC's connection to the Comintern was through the Anglo-American Secretariat. The records selected for filming are only a small portion of the Secretariat's fonds. They consist of minutes of meeting, correspondence, reports, instructions, workplans and lists of members of the CPs of the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. The Secretariat ceased to exist in 1937.
