Series consists of items documenting the military and public career of Ernest Sansom. Included are: military commissions and civilian honours and awards, 1914-1978; historical narratives covering operations of the Canadian Machine Gun Companies and Brigade, 1916-1918; letters to his wife and daughter, 1939-1940; signed orders for the mounting of the King's Guards by the 1st Canadian Division, 1940; operational instructions for Hammer Force, a planned Canadian and British operation in Norway, April 1940; miscellaneous military letters and orders, 1940-1944; a casualty list of the Canadian Armoured Corps, 1943-1945; miscellaneous correspondence and clippings relating to his military and public service activities, 1928-1982; and a manuscript album of the opening of the Fredericton Military Compound, 1971.

Also included are the Report on Survey of Reinforcement Situation, Canadian Army Overseas, 1945 (Volume 2); and a scrapbook covering his military and public service activities, 1939-1971 (Volume 3).
