This series contains Simon Reisman's records created during his negotiation and advocacy of the Canada-United States Free Trade Agreement. It includes copies of records held by the Trade Negotiation Office such as briefing books, cabinet memoranda and analyses of legislation (Comprehensive Free Trade Implementation Act).

Series also consists of Reisman's private oral diaries regarding his involvement in the Free Trade Agreement for the period May 1986 to January 1988, as well as radio and television interviews in which he defended the agreement. Interviews conducted by Tim Falcone, Peggy Berkowitz, and vaious commerical television stations.

The series includes subject files with analysis by think tanks such as the C.D. Howe Institute, Informetrica Ltd., and the Business Council on National Issues (headed by Thomas d'Aquino). There are correspondence files with the Prime Minister, Brian Mulroney, and cabinet ministers John Crosbie, Pat Carney, Joe Clark, Michael Wilson and Mitchell Sharp, as well as the Clerk of the Privy Council, Paul Tellier, and the Deputy Minister of Justice, Frank Iacobucci. There is also correspondence with the American chief trade negotiator, Peter Murphy.
