The series consists of papers relating to Robert L. Seaborn's military service with the Canadian Chaplain Service. They include official documents, 1942-1993 (file 14); a journal, 6 August 1942 - 9 September 1944 (which includes Seaborn's account of his D-Day experiences, 6 June 1944) and a printed pocket diary, 10 September 1944 - 2 September 1945 (file 15); three notebooks, containing rough notes of church parades, 16 August 1942 - 4 April 1943 and 31 August 1943 - 2 August 1945; sermon notes, 16 August 1942 - 19 August 1945, n.d.; and notes relating to burials and next of kin, 31 August 1943 - 2 August 1945 (files 16-17); two field message books, 31 March 1944 - 9 October 1944 and 15 October 1944 - 10 April 1945, with notes relating to burials and next of kin (file 18); two books of official burial return stubs, 16 September 1944 - 20 February 1945 and 8 March - 27 July 1945 - in the second of these, there are a few entries, 6-27 October 1944, made by others (file 19).
Series also consists of Padre Seaborn's burial lists for the 1st Battalion of the Canadian Scottish Regiment, 6 June - 17 December 1944 (file 20); Padre Seaborn's muster roll of the 1 CSR, 25 May 1944, and a revised version of the same roll, together with a burial registry for the Regiment, 1939-1945 (files 21-22).
Also included are a number of miscellaneous papers regarding a chaplain's role, 1944-197[9] (file 23); other miscellaneous items, n.d., 1944-1945, including a book of the D-Day, 6 June 1944, experiences of Malcolm Cameron Barnett of the 12th Field Regiment, 43rd Battery of the Royal Canadian Artillery; Battledress Ballads (a collection of verses written by soldiers of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division), n.d.; illustrated diary, 6-21 June 1944, of front line Padre, H/Capt. J.C. Clough of the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, printed in "New World Illustrated", October 1944 (files 24-25); material relating to the history of the Canadian Scottish Regiment, post-1940 - 1964, including published material and a map of the Canadian D-Day assaults (file 27); and wartime photographs and snapshots (photocopies in file 26).
Also material relating to reunions of the 1 CSR, 1945-1985 which includes photographs. Photocopies of the photographs are contained in files 28-29, while the originals are described in the Photographs and prints series.
