Series consists largely of diaries and notebooks kept by Robin Spry while he was pursuing his studies at Oxford and the London School of Economics. They record skiing expeditions to Scotland and Switzerland, return visits to Canada (including an account of a Board of Broadcast Governors Conference 1960), travels in India, and a bullfight in Bayonne (1959). They contain references to Spry's parents (Irene Spry and Graham Spry), to his studies, social life, love affairs, theatre and film projects, photography, the writing of an unpublished novel, and other aspects of Spry's life in England.

Series also includes a diary (1964-1967) covering the period when Spry returned to Canada and began working at the National Film Board, with references to Tom Daly, John Spotton, Don Owen, Donald Brittain, and other filmmakers. The diary also contains a retrospective account of Spry's early films with the Board and an account of his personal life during the period.
