Sub-series consists of research material collected and created by Ted Allan during the course of his research into the life and work of Norman Bethune, and includes 3 sub-sub-series consisting of the archival records of Norman Bethune, as follows: Norman Bethune Correspondence and Memoranda; Norman Bethune Published Writings; and Norman Bethune Memorabilia.

Included are : clippings and notes on Norman Bethune; a notebook Ted Allan kept during a visit to China 1958; transcripts of documents relating to Bethune, including some poems by him; and reports of the China Aid Council and China Defence League 1942-1945. There is also reference material including transcripts of correspondence about Bethune after his death; manuscripts, transcripts and printed copies of articles and other writings about Bethune by [Hazen Sise], poet Louise Harvey, Professor William Band, Mme Sun Yat-Sen, Dr. Ma Xai-deh, missionary Kathleen Hall, poet Harlan R. Crippen, Dr. L. Eloesser, Mao Tse-Tung, Chu Teh, and Wang Ming; circulars and printed material distributed by the China Aid Council, China Defence League and other organizations; and articles, offprints and pamphlets on medical subjects.

Also included :Allan's copies of some of Bethune's correspondence and his research notes, as well as printed material of relevance to Bethune's life. Also included are an original copy of Bethune's 1935 report on "Medical Care for the People of Montreal", with a covering letter bearing his signature, and an original diary and an original notebook dated 1937 kept by the architect Hazen Sise, one of Bethune's companions in Spain, with notes by him probably dating from the 1940s, along with notes from the same period by another companion in Spain, Henning Sorenson.
