Sub-series includes articles on Bethune by Ted Allan; notes for the film "Bethune: the Making of a Hero" and for a mini-series, readers' reports, scene breakdowns and a film outline; an obituary; the National Film Board's post-production script of "Bethune"; and manuscript drafts of "The Scalpel, the Sword".

Also included outlines, notes, drafts of manuscripts and scripts, and some printed versions of Ted Allan's writings on Bethune. This material consists of articles; various film and television treatments, with a screenplay by Alfred Hayes and extensive material relating to "Bethune: the Making of a Hero" including the script re-write by John Hunter; a radio play, "Lifetide"; stage plays, including Ken Mitchell's "Gone the Burning Sun"; a proposed novel and a proposed memoir; the biography "The Scalpel, the Sword"; and a translation of a Chinese work on Bethune.

Among documents : a treatment for a proposed film on Norman Bethune, with a 1955 letter from Dutch filmmaker Joris Ivens discussing possible Chinese involvement. There is a copy of the script used during the shooting of the film "Bethune: the Making of a Hero", along with continuity reports. Also included is a stage play based on the life of Bethune and his wife Frances, written by Ted Allan in 1990, as well as notes for a new biography [1987], documenting Allan's continuing pre-occupation with the story of Norman Bethune.
