PontingDescription:A British Empire Film Institute re-issue of Herbert Ponting's film record of the 1910/1913 British Antarctic Expedition to the South Pole led by Captain Robert Falcon Scott. At Lyttelton, New Zealand the whaling ship Terra Nova is loaded with expedition supplies including 30 Siberian huskies and 19 ponies. Shots of Antarctic scenery as voyage progresses past the Great Ice Cap, Ross Island, Mount Erebus and McMurdo Sound. Ponting makes the first film record of Antarctic animal life including Weddell seals, penguins, killer whales and Skua gulls. The story of the ill-fated polar expedition is reconstructed with aid of diagrams, maps and quotations from Scott's diary. Exceptional footage includes shots of expedition members; Captain Scott, Edward Wilson, Henry Bowers, Lawrence Oates and Edgar Evans prior to their November 2, 1911 departure, and two still photos developed from the camera found with the bodies.Language:Silent with English intertitlesDetailed holdings information: -
