Series consists of original material acquired by the National Archives of Canada in 1953 and 1975: correspondence, reports, memoranda, instructions, returns, charts, and other official papers accumulated by Duckworth during his governorship of Newfoundland, 1810-1812. Subjects of interest include Duckworth's efforts to contact the Beothuck Indians; the War of 1812; deserters from the Royal Navy; and the Newfoundland fisheries.

The page numbers borne by the items were those used for the arrangement on microfilm, and the large gaps in their sequence represent the material from the Provincial Archives of Newfoundland and Labrador and from Queen's University Archives, with which they were integrated. A separate list of the collection is shelved with the documents.

The naval charts on pages 4507-4514 are also available on microfiche Nos. 15560-15563 in the Cartographic and Architectural Archives Division. The Documentary Art and Photography Division holds colour transparencies of the graphic material on pages 4502, 4505 and 4507, under the Duckworth Collection title.
