Series consists largely of Hamilton Southam's personal correspondence while he was Director-General of the National Arts Centre, but including earlier correspondence relating to the planning of the centre and later correspondence relating to his continuing interest in its management. Included are copies of Southam's replies as well as incoming correspondence.

Included among the correspondents are the following: Jean Gascon 1973; Brian Law 1974; Galina Samsova 1975; Maryon Pearson 1975; Pauline Julien 1975; Paul Buissonneau, Compagnie de Quat'Sous 1976; Albert Reichmann 1976; and others.
