Series consists of the wartime letters of D'Arcy Leonard, chiefly to his family but including several addressed to him, documenting his activities. Included are: the voyage to England on the RMS Metagama, June 1915; training at Shorncliffe with the 23rd Reserve Battalion, June-July 1915; action with the 3rd Battalion in France, July-October 1915; officers candidate training, October-November 1915; the return to France as a lieutenant with the 5th Battalion, November-December 1915; his wounding and convalesence, December 1915-March 1916; and finally a letter describing his posting to 81 Squadron, RFC Canada, at Camp Rathburn, July 1918.
