This file is an updated "metric units" version to G0000574, which is in imperial units. The hydex file contains descriptive information for hydrometric gauging stations (streamflow and water levels). The purpose of the hydex file is to 1)provide "management statistics," ie. number and/or name of active stramflow stations in Alberta, cableways in Manitoba, sediment stations in Canada by province or by districts, etc., 2)provide printouts showing gauging stations in the various categories in the cost-sharing agreements with the provinces, 3)produce computer listings suitable for publishing the annual Surface Water Data Reference Index of Canada. and 4)produce computer listings suitable for distribution to users when combined with flow, levels and peaks files for the Water Survey of Canada.
