This file contains data collected in September of 1983 during the survey on Canadian attitudes concerning social services. It attempted to acquire information on the opinions of Canadian residents regarding a variety of topical issues including: the issues which most concerned or worried them, their hopes and goals, the issues they believed required urgent government action, their opinions on the economy, unemployment, and inflation. The survey sought impressions of social programs and whether the federal government was spending the appropriate amount of money on each issue; it also sought impressions regarding the impact the government programs had on a variety of topical problems including working mothers and unemployment. In addition, it inquired about perceptions of the security of Canada and the acceptability of a variety of actions which might be taken by the government in an attempt to ensure national security.
