This file contains data collected during a survey for which a total of 1033 adults, 18 years of age and over, were personally interviewed in their homes across Canada on March 3, 4 and 5, 1977. Questions were asked about the consumption of prescribed medications during the last 0-2 days, the last 2 weeks and the last 2 months. Care was taken to ensure that respondents understood that only medication prescribed by a physician was of interest. Because the primary interest of the study was with psychotropic drugs, detailed information concerning name of drug, dose, and patterns of use was recorded only for sedatives, tranquillizers, antidepressants and antispasmodics. Wherever possible this was obtained directly from the label on the package.
