This file contains data regarding a study that investigates the transition patterns of those leaving the Canadian Forces on retirement, or for voluntary reasons. Results are based on questionnaire and interview data obtained between June and October 1976 on 238 members, holding the rank of Private to Colonel, who left the Forces for civilian life. A number of general recommendations regarding relocation policy, and made by separatees, are offered.

SAMPLING METHODOLOGY: The respondents were 238 male service members who were about to leave the Forces or who had just left, and included a number of exservicemen who were undergoing training at Loyalist College. The sample consisted of voluntary leavers and those who had reached compulsory retirement age. Ranks ranged from Colonel to Private, and all broad classification and trade groupings were represented. As to length of service, about 26 percent had served five years or less, 17 percent had served more than 25 years, and the greatest proportion, 31.5 percent, had served between 21 and 25 years.
