The sample for this survey was selected from the listings of full-time students using prescribed sampling ratios and random starts. Each selected student was sent a questionnaire and letter explaining the study and assuring anonymity. The questionnaire contained approximately 400 variables dealing with all aspects of drug use and related dimensions. It also contained questions regarding the demographic, socio-economic, and family characteristics of each respondent as well as many other attributes. Drug use questions concerned the use of alcohol, tobacco, cannabis derivatives, tranquillizers, sleeping pills, amphetamines, hallucinogens, narcotic derivatives and volatile substances.
