The sample of high school students for this survey was obtained concurrently with the adult sample, rather than through a sample of schools. All secondary school students in every household were given a questionnaire to complete and return to the interviewer. The questionnaire for this survey was similar to the adult questionnaire in that it contained variables which covered the student's opinions, attitudes, beliefs and knowledge of drugs and drug use and related dimensions. For each of the eight classes of drugs mentioned in the adult survey, data were collected on the extent and frequency of use, characteristics associated with use, temporal and geographic spread of use, introduction to drug use and continuation of use, resistance to use and discontinuation of use, and attitudes toward drugs and drug laws.
