Custodial history:

This group of photographs were transferred from Federal Archives Division to the National Photography Collection in 1979 by archivist Brian Hallett. They were removed from the following textual files in RG12, volume 2769 (files 9352-G1 and 9702-41), volume 2780 (file 8308-101), volume 2781 (files 8308-171, part 2 and 8308-177, part I) and volume 2782 (files 8308-187 and 8308-221).

These photographs may be related to the Formal Investigations and Preliminary Inquiries into Shipping Casualities, sub-series (RG 42-C-3-a, Mikan 165676), under the Dominon Wreck Commissioner. These photographs were transferred from the Department of Transport, but may also cover investigations that took place when the Department of Marine held the photographs.
