Series consists of miscellaneous correspondence, largely letters from Henry Lambart's family in England; a notebook kept by Henry Lambart including notes, clippings, diary entries, and letter transcripts, as well as some sketches; scrapbook kept by Sarah Howard Lambart, largely clippings relating to Ottawa social life and gardening; clippings and other material copied from two family bibles (not retained in the collection) and a school diploma 1861.

There are also letters to and from Hiram E. Howard and his daughters, Henrica Holloway Howard (later Wallbridge) and Hannah Sarah Howard (later Lambart), concerning their education and related matters.

Additional material consists of correspondence, mainly to and from family members, concerning family matters including the discussion of moral, religious and financial subjects, legal and financial documents concerning property matters, a notebook, drawings, and memorabilia.

Lambart, Octavius Henry, 1855-1919 : Octavius Henry Lambart was the son of the 8th Earl of Cavan, Frederick John William Lambart (1815-1887), and his wife, Caroline Augusta Littleton. Octavius Henry Lambart came to Canada in 1874. He married Sarah Howard and they settled in New Edinburgh, Ontario, in a house called Vine Lynne at 7 Rideau Gate, later a federal official residence for dignitaries visiting Ottawa.

Howard, Hannah Sarah, 1846-1911 : Hannah Sarah Howard was the daughter of Hiram E. Howard of Buffalo. She married Octavius Henry Lambart and with him founded the Canadian branch of the Lambart family. Her sister, Henrica Holloway Howard, married Sam Shelly Wallbridge of Belleville, Ontario.
