Series consists of material documenting Robert Ford's professional career as a diplomat specializing in the USSR and the Cold War, as well as personal interests including his poetry and other publications. Documents include telexes; statements; notes; newsletters; articles and clippings; notebooks; appointments; awards and other memorabilia. Series also includes correspondence with friends and colleagues including Lillian Hellman (copies only), Mavis Gallant, columnist Peter Worthington, Joe Clark, Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, and various others from literary and international relations circles. Materials deal with subjects such as arms control, Canada's place in the world, Ford's literary output, charitable donations, and Russian and French culture. Ford's participation in the Palme Commission is also represented. Included in horizontal storage (container 4) is an award of appreciation from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, .
