Series consists of correspondence and despatches to Lord Durham from the Colonial Secretary and other members of the government, 1838-1839, volumes 7-11, and his replies, 1838-1839, volumes 12-15; correspondence with the British Minister at Washington, Lieutenant Governors of the provinces of British North America and the Governor of Bermuda, 1837-1838, volumes 16-19; copies of despatches exchanged by Lords Durham and Glenelg, 1838, volumes 43-45, general correspondence, 1817-1842, volumes 25-29; private correspondence, 1838-1841, volumes 46-47; and letters from Stewart Derbishire, 1838, volume 37.

Series also consists of correspondence of Lord Durham with various officials involved with the Colonial Office, such as Sir John Colborne, Lords Gosford and Glenelg and Charles Buller, further highlights Durham's mission to Canada and the problems he encountered. Major topics are the tariff of fees at the Vice Admiralty Court at Quebec; the Ordinance providing for the security of Lower Canada, 1838, and the consequences which followed its disallowance; and the participation of American citizens in the Rebellion and the potential American invasion of Canada in 1837-1838. Microfilm reels A-1219 to A-1220.

Series also contains a statement relative to the Earl of Durham's administration in British North America, 1838-1839, pages 221-228.
