Description:

James V. Stowell's lecture film of the July-August 1955 voyage of the M.V. "Laverock" from Montreal to Poste de la Baleine, Great Whale River, carrying construction supplies for the Mid Canada Line defensive radar sites. Scenes include: a map of the Eastern Arctic showing Tovell's travel route; views of skyscrapers in Montreal; Laverock" loading lumber, prefab and supplies in Montreal, passing HMCS "Portage" on the St. Lawrence River, Château Frontenac in Québec City; aboard, at sea, icebergs, offloading in rough weather, "shiptime", Inuit and Naskapi, skins, drying, tents, kayaks on stands, everyone working with spills of stores and children. Dominion cranes offloaded and construction. Barges and lighters are used. Hudson Bay Company post. HBC ship "Rupertsland". <39mn 54s>
