Series consists of transcriptions of abstracts of petitions for land grants are arranged first by county, then in numeric/chronological order. The time frame covered in the abstracts varies substantially from one county to another; the majority of these records date between the 1780s and 1830s. The nominal index prefacing the abstracts identifies each petition by number. Two typescript versions of the abstracts exist for Charlotte and Westmoreland counties. Photostats of the abstracts exist for Kent and Queen's counties.

Arrangement note:

The rationale for placing the Carleton County abstracts (volume 3, file 2) out of alphabetic order was not recorded; the order is otherwise logical from Albert (volume 4) to York (volume 19).
