Sub-series consists of despatches and enclosures from the British Minister at Washington, and from diplomats representing other countries, received by the Governor-in-Chief of Lower Canada and of the Province of Canada, 1812-1866. These records document numerous aspects of international relations with the United States including regulation of commerce, international boundaries, tonnage duties, fisheries disputes, the destruction of the CAROLINE, the Hunters' Lodges incidents, treaty negotiations including the Webster-Ashburton treaty, regulation of arms on the Great Lakes, passport regulations, embargoes on goods, Fenian raids. The records are arranged chronologically.
