Draft, fair and engrossed copies of Ordinances passed by the Governor and Council of Quebec, 1764-1791, and the Parliament of Lower Canada, 1792 (volumes 5-23), have been formed into a series with contemporary copies of ordinances of the Military Governor of Montreal, 1761-1764 (volume 1), several registers of ordinances of Quebec and Lower Canada, 1777-1792 (volumes 2-4), and the printed Ordinances of 1787 (volume 1A). Some drafts of proposed Ordinances are included. The parchment copy of the Ordinance of April 29 1784 have been placed in a separate container (see volume 65 and 66).

Internal evidence indicates these records to have been accumulated by the Clerk of the Executive Council as submissions to or products of the legislative committee of that body and for reference purposes. Similar records, apparently astray from this series, are found in RG 14, A 1, volumes 1-7; reintegration of these records is planned.
