The series consists of the Subject files kept in the national office of the CFUW. It holds documentation on a wide variety of subjects, projects, conferences, and committees, especially for records created before 1980. Some of the significant blocks of files include Annual General Meetings, Annual reports, Articles and addresses, Biographical material, Centenary committee, Club correspondence and reports, Constitution and by-laws, Corrections and penal reform, Council and executive meetings, Education committee, Early women graduates' recollections and personal information, Executive committee, Fellowships, Finance committee, Human Rights, International relations, Legislation committee, Libraries and creative arts, Meech Lake Accord, Membership, Nominations, Non-Governmental Organizations, Pornography, Prostitution, Presidential files, Programs of conferences, Provincial Directors, Reading stimulation grants, Regional conferences, Resolutions committee, "Roster of Qualified Women" project, Status of Women committee, Surveys of women university graduates, Treasurer's statements, Triennial conferences, "Women in Universities" survey project, and Vice- Presidential files.

In general, the Subject files series does not include records created after 1980 for the following areas: Annual General Meetings, Board of Directors and Executive files, club correspondence and reports, committees, and government correspondence. These constitute separate series for records transferred to the archives after 1988.

An interesting item from this series that has been digitized for display in an on-line exhibition is a list of the first ten women graduates of the University of Manitoba, held in volume 8, file 32.

Arrangement note:

The series is arranged alphabetically within larger chronological blocks that formed part of different accessions. In transfers of records after 1988, many of the types of records that had been part of the Subject files series became separate series in their own right. Researchers should consult these other series for post-1980 records.
