Generally include returns of sick and wounded, noting number of patrons admitted, those held over from last report, discharges and their diseases, monthly abstracts of strengths of regiments, lists of diseases, of men, women and children, maniacal patients, vaccinations, deaths, meteorological observations and accounts of registers used for statistics.

The statistical data is followed by extensive reports by regimental medical officers commenting on weather conditions, climate, prevalent diseases often accompanied by detailed case histories, diet, clothing, exercise, accommodation, sleep, bathing, health inspections, hospital accommodation and treatment. Certain volumes are not in chronological order. Within each volume the returns are grouped by colony and are then in regimental order.
