Applications and recommendations for appointments to public offices, petitions for pensions or other assistance, registers and lists of applicants and of incumbents, and applications for examinations for the civil service, 1803-1876, have been segregated as a series. The lists of applicants and incumbents are arranged alphabetically by candidate's name or by district. Volumes 15-21 were reintegrated with other civil service examination records from RG 5, B 8 and consolidated in RG 4, B 33 in 1986. A quantity of post-1867 material in volume 8 is under investigation to determine its proper location.
