Additional MSS. 4159 is Volume 5 of a 5-volume collection of letters and papers, chiefly original, relating to affairs of state. The excerpt copied by the National Archives of Canada, in 1915, is document No. 392 of the collection. It is a draft petition to Elizabeth I from Sir Humphrey Gilbert ([1539]-1583), for a monopoly of the right to search for the North West Passage.
