Transcriptions of the records now designated War Office 28, volumes 2-10 were made by the London Office of the Public Archives of Canada, before those volumes received their modern designation. For the next half century, these copies were identified as volumes 324-337 in the M Series. On adoption of the record group system, they were initially redesignated MG 12, B 42 to B 56, then, to facilitate correlation with the original records, were redesignated as MG 13, WO 28, volumes 2-10.
Negative photostatic copies of certain oversize returns in volume 10 were procured to replace transcriptions which had deteriorated. Other vulnerable pages were replaced with photocopies. In 1978, the transcripts and photocopies in volumes 2-10 were microfilmed as a conservation measure to preserve their content.
