Series consists of genealogical data dating from 1657 to 1974, taken largely from parish registers and entered on cards forms the basis of this collection. The majority of the entries are concerned with marriages and indicate the date, names of the parties and their parents, and the parish where the event took place. The collection includes some information on marriage contracts as well as some newspaper clippings, obituary notices and photographs.

The index cards are arranged in two series, alphabetically by family name. The first series covers the oldest Catholic parishes of the Outaouais region, some parishes of Eastern and Northern Ontario, and the County of Pontiac reels H-1023 to H-1047. The second series relates to Quebec, especially the parishes of Montreal Island and the surrounding counties of Vaudreuil, Chateauguay, Huntingdon Beauharnois, l'Assomption, Laval, Two Mountains and Argenteuil, as well as some parishes of the Lake St. Pierre region, reels H-1048 to H-1092. This second series also contains cards for marriages of some Acadians of Prince Edward Island and other events taken from information presented in the journal Saguenayensis.

There are about 270,000 cards in 149 drawers.
