Series consists of memorials of Captain Paul Mascarene, commandant at Annapolis Fort, 1713-1714, with supporting documents, 1710-1714 (ff. 1-33); letterbook of Major Paul Mascarene, 1719-1725, engineer at Annapolis Fort, containing his despatches to the Board of Ordnance (ff. 34-69v); Minutes of Council of the Province of Nova Scotia held at Annapolis Royal, 9 January 1746 - 15 January 1747, while Mascarene was acting Governor of Nova Scotia; selections of Mascarene's letters, etc., extracted from the Minutes of Council of the Province of Nova Scotia, 9 January 1746 - 15 January 1747 (ff. 70-85) and 30 June - 1 September 1746 (ff. 87, 92v-97v). Topics dealt with include the dilapidation of the fort at Annapolis Royal, Mascarene's difficulties with Lieutenant John Washington, harassment by the Indians and fears of the French. Add.
