Series consists of correspondence of Sir Edward Belcher's Expedition, 1852: letters, 1852-1873, from Sir Edward Belcher (1799-1877) himself, and his officers, Lieutenant (Commander, October 1852) Sherard Osborn of H.M.S. Pioneer; Captain Henry Kellett (1806-1875) of H.M.S. Resolute; Commander William John Samuel Pullen (1813-1887) of H.M.S. North Star; Commander George Henry Richards of H.M.S. Assistance; and also from Dr. Robert McCormick. The correspondence includes some outspoken accounts of disagreements between Belcher and the officers under him, written confidentially from both sides. Most of the later letters are from Osborn, Richards and McCormick. At the beginning are the printed instructions from the Admiralty to Captain Sir Edward Belcher, 16 April 1852 (f. 3).

In addition, Captain [Henry] Kellett: letters, 12 June 1851 - 10 June 1858, from Captain Henry Kellett (f. 553). Also, M. de Bray: letters, 1853-1859 and n.d., from M. Théophile de Bray, and from Madame Théophile de Bray, with one from her son, Lieutenant Émil de Bray of the French navy, who assisted in one of the expeditions (f. 568).
