Collection search - Leader's correspondence [textual record]

A card index of groups and individuals who corresponded with David Lewis is located in volumes 134 to 141. For the leader's correspondence between 1970 and 1973, consult the card index from volumes 134 to 137. for the leader's correspondence of 1974, consult the card index from volumes 138 to 141.

The arrangement of the correspondence is numeric, following the department/subject system of the Leader's office. Within the files, the arrangement is by the date of Lewis' last reply; however, there are some files which are arranged alphabetically by the surname of the correspondent.

While the overall arrangement of the Leader's correspondence series in the finding aid is based on department/subject system, the correspondence unit also created a card index system of groups and individuals who corresponded with David Lewis. This card index is organized with a filing system that has been preserved in the finding aid under "File Creator No". Each card in the index possesses a number relating it to a subject folder. As example, a card index with the number "2-1" is related to the folder "Communications - general". There are two card index, one for the years 1971 to 1973, and another one for 1974.
