The story of England's oldest colony and its contribution to the war effort. Newfoundlanders enlisting, receiving mail through Trade Commissioner Davies office on Victoria Street in London, and soldiers and civilians working in Britain. Good shots of the Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit lumbering in Scotland, driving tractors, horses, cutting and felling. They eagerly tear open letters from home and read them and "The Barrelman", a home newspaper. Good sequence of men of the 166th (Newfoundland) Field Regiment, Royal Artillery being inspected and at target practice with 25-pounders. A soldier of the 59th (Newfoundland) Heavy Regiment, Royal Artillery darns a sock. We see this regiment practicing on the range with 9.2-inch howitzers. Tremendous explosions as shells land on hillside targets. Men of Newfoundland are seen in Royal Navy training, using pom-poms, signalling, and rowing cutters. Good shots of seaman going aboard ship and shot of convoy with Merchant Navy Newfoundlanders on the sea lanes between Newfoundland and Great Britain. Newfoundlanders of the 125th (Newfoundland) Squadron, Royal Air Force in front of Boulton Paul Defiant night fighters, and flying Hawker Hurricanes and Bristol Beaufighters.
