Letters from: James Abercromby, Commissary of Musters (enclosing copies of memorials to the Secretary at War and the Treasury), 15 November 1747; Vice-Admiral Lord Vere Beauclerk (1699-1781), 15 May 1747; John Russell, 4th Duke of Bedford (1710-1771), 18 July 1746; the Hon. William Bentinck (1704-1774), 10 September 1745; and Commodore Thomas Griffin (d. 1771), 10 August 1745. Topics include admiralty and diplomatic information, with some references to Louisbourg; also, arrangements for the safe conduct of Charles-Marie de La Condamine (1701-1774) returning to Paris, via Surinam and the Netherlands, from Quito where he had measured three degrees of longitude at the Equator for the French Académie des Sciences.
